ROGERS, Ark., July 21, 2014 – Ozark Mountain Poultry (OMP), a vertically integrated poultry company based in Rogers, Ark., announced today the purchase of a 1.7 million bushel capacity grain elevator located near Jonesboro in Bay, Ark.

OMP produces premium quality chicken for the restaurant industry and its products are also available at a variety of grocery retailers throughout the country through its consumer-based brand Forester Farmer’s Market.

With the purchase, OMP will plan to source all of the grain used to produce feed for its poultry growers from farms within a 150-mile radius of its Batesville complex. It also gives the company the ability to source, store and preserve the identity of grain with no genetic modification (non-GMO). CEO Ed Fryar said the purchase will help the company control what its chickens are fed. And by bringing OMP and farmers closer together, the facility will help lower costs for the company and provide more grain pricing alternatives for farmers.

“We couldn’t be happier about the opportunities this facility will provide our company,” said Dr. Ed Fryar, CEO, Ozark Mountain Poultry. “More importantly, we’re excited for what it brings to the people involved, specifically Northeast Arkansas farmers, our poultry growers in the Batesville area, our employees in Batesville and Rogers and our customers across the country.”

The acquisition follows the company’s purchase of the former Pilgrim’s Pride processing facility in Batesville, Ark., in November 2013, a move that saved approximately 250 jobs in that community.

Initially, the facility will focus on buying, selling and storing corn, with planned expansion to wheat and soybeans in the future. Farmers currently selling grain to the facility should experience no disruption. Those interested in grain selling opportunities should contact facility manager David Hundley at (870) 770-1902.

The company will be hosting an event to give the local community an opportunity to come by and learn more about their operations. This event will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Northeast Arkansas Exhibition Center located at 7001 E. Johnson, Jonesboro.
